Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s Southampton FC Women return to St Mary’s for the first time since their opening day defeat, as they welcome Sunderland AFC Women.

Last time out saw a new side to Saints, where a gritty performance and a first Championship goal for Ella Pusey saw them take all three points at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United; The three points in South Yorkshire also saw the side climb to third in the table.

Sunderland sit at the other end of proceedings, having endured a tough start to the season, collecting just four points from six games.

The Black Cats come into Sunday’s fixture off the back of a 2-0 loss at home to high-flyers London City Lionesses, and will be hoping to bounce back and put themselves closer to their nearest rivals, Blackburn Rovers.

With plenty to play for on the pitch, and with the arrivals of new Women’s Official Principal Partner Starling Bank seeing plenty of exciting additions to off the pitch entertainment, it’s set to be another blockbuster game at St Mary’s.

MANAGER’S NOTES
“Sunderland are an established team at this level, and with the league in its early stages, their position in the table is deceiving.

“Melanie Reay has a strong group of players, and as I say every week, we’ll need to keep the level high to come away with something.

“Our win at Sheffield showed a different side to us, and I’m confident that the girls will bring that same workrate and desire into Sunday’s game.”

OPPOSITION WATCH
A goalscoring forward who works hard out of possession, Emily Scarr has been a mainstay in the Black Cats starting-eleven this season.
