Ralph Hasenhüttl rued his side’s lack of creativity, following Southampton’s 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Friday night.

In a game of very few chances Villa grabbed the eventual winner four minutes shy of the break; Jacob Ramsey stabbing home from close range following a corner routine.

Despite using all five of their substitutes the visitors tried and failed to mount a fightback, on a disappointing evening in the Midlands.

Following the game an honest manager said: “We didn’t see a good game today from both teams, but there was one winner and that wasn’t us.

“It was deservedly not us because when you win a game you must create more. At the moment we don’t create enough.

“Against a physically strong side like we played today you have to find solutions, we tried but nothing really worked. We tried to bring different types of players in that gives you the one-against-one quality but we haven’t found a solution.

“Against the ball we were okay but with the ball we’re not doing it at the moment.”
