Elyounoussi: We're disappointed
Moi Elyounoussi reflected on a disappointing afternoon at St Mary’s as Southampton fell to their second consecutive home defeat.
Despite claiming a goal for himself to give Saints a lifeline shortly before the break, Hasenhüttl’s men failed to make a comeback in front of a loyal following in SO14.
“We’re disappointed because it wasn’t what was expected. Obviously, we gave away a really easy goal and they started believing it as well. They got the second and that made it tougher for ourselves.
“I knew that if we got the next goal we could turn things around. We couldn’t turn all those chances into goals and that was also disappointing.
“We know the last couple of games we’ve conceded first and that makes things a little bit harder and Watford could just sit deeper and try to counter-attack while we tried to risk a bit more. That’s how the second came as well.
“In the end when I look around in the dressing room I see the players are disappointed and angry but I can sense a feeling that we want to bounce back as quickly as possible.
“We need to find the solution for the next one because against those teams, they’re always going to make it difficult for you."
Aside from a disappointing team result, the Norwegian international did net his eighth goal of the season and first in front of a St Mary’s crowd.
“It’s hard to talk about it because it’s not in my mind at all. I’d rather go out goalless and get the three points than score and lose.
“It’s been talked about that I haven’t scored at home so it’s a nice feeling to score here at St Mary’s but it doesn’t mean much at the moment. We need to get back on it, work hard for the next one. Its going to be a tough one but I think it’s possible.”
