Southampton Football Club’s Academy has created a new Technical Development Department, designed to keep it at the forefront of coaching.

The department will look to enhance the skillset of the Academy’s specialists and coaching staff, enriching their knowledge of elite sport and in turn continuing to provide the best possible pathway for the next generation.

This new division has been designed to strengthen focus around each element of the current successful coaching programme and is a product of a review into the club’s innovative work with young players.

Leading the project are Head of Technical Development Iain Brunnschweiler and Coach Development Manager Steve King, who have been at the Academy for a combined 20 years.

Academy Director Matt Hale said: “This is a really positive move for the Academy as we look to streamline the great work we do.

“Over the past couple of months we’ve been working through the process of appointing a new Head of Academy Coaching, but what transpired through our extensive search was an opportunity to do something pioneering in this area.

“Our new Technical Development Department will have various functions but predominately will focus on providing our coaches and specialists with all the education and tools they require to grow and improve."
