Having reached the Emirates FA Cup semi-finals last season, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl is placing a similar importance on the competition this time around.

Facing Coventry City on Saturday to take on Championship opposition for the second round in a row having dispatched Swansea in round three, the Saints boss has reiterated his positive approach to the FA Cup.

“We have shown last season that there is always a chance to come very far and we have been in the semi-finals and it was very enjoyable this successful run in the competition, but a pity we didn’t make the final.

“It’s even more interesting at the moment when all the supporters can come to watch it at Wembley, so this is the goal. The target is to do it even better than last season.

“The chance is always there. I said it last season, we have been very clear in our message that we take it very seriously. We have been in a very good position in the table and this season it is similar but also, we have a bigger squad this season and this makes it easier for me.

“Last season we took the risk and then had a lot of injuries. I remember after the Arsenal game we lost three players and this hurt a lot.

“But in the end we have to take it very serious and we will because it’s a very big chance and the supporters love it, we love it, and we want to come far and come in the next round and be in the FA Cup for as long as possible.”
