With a virtually fully fit squad to choose from this weekend, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has outlined his thoughts regarding team selection for the Emirates FA Cup tie with Coventry City on Saturday.

Facing three games in seven days with trips to Tottenham and Manchester United in the Premier League next week, the Saints boss is keen to utilise his squad when Mark Robins’s side visit St Mary’s.

With Tino Livramento and Will Smallbone returning to training to leave only Alex McCarthy and Nathan Tella ruled out through injury, Hasenhüttl explained his approach to the cup tie.

“Even if we do make a lot of changes or a few ones, we have a very, very balanced squad at the moment, so I don’t see the big difference.

“We have 22 players nearly on one level and this is a very good opportunity for me to give everybody a chance.

“How many changes we will make we will see, but we have to look for the other games also, that’s for sure.

“That’s the reason we have to look carefully after the four players who have come back from long injuries, if they get the chance to play and how long.

“The good thing is that in the cup we have five chances for a sub. This is the positive thing so you can react more and this is good.”
