WHAT’S AT STAKE?

It’s been an impressive week for Jürgen Klopp’s men who are fresh off the back of a 2-0 victory over Porto in the Champions League.

After suffering defeat at the hands of West Ham earlier this month, the Reds claimed all three points as they knocked four past Arsenal last weekend.

The hosts will be eager to continue their winning form as they look to maintain pressure on league leaders Chelsea.

Saints will be looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Norwich City last weekend.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men sit 13th in the current Premier League standings, after an impressive four unbeaten run saw them climb the table.

In a tightly contested season, Saints remain three points off of both Leeds United who sit in 17th and Manchester United who are currently eighth in the table.

TEAM NEWS

Despite resting a number of first-team regulars in their victory over Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday, Klopp still started Mo Salah and Sadio Mané who have less than 70 hours to recover.

The hosts will be without long-term absentee Harvey Elliot, while Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita all remain a doubt for Saturday’s clash.

It’s positive news for Saints as Jack Stephens has returned to team training after a two-month stint on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Stuart Armstrong will be absent at Anfield, while Nathan Redmond and Moussa Djenepo are back in contention.

THE MANAGERS

Jürgen Klopp: “But actually I think we have to play even better on Saturday against Southampton because they are a proper pressing machine and they go really for it.”

Ralph Hasenhüttl: “It's not easy but we've shown that we can threaten the big teams. It's not impossible. I've seen Brighton get points there, but 99 times out of 100, if you go two goals down you lose to them.”

ONES TO WATCH

Mo Salah:
Having notched 17 goals already as well as seven assists, Mo Salah is in fine form for Liverpool this season.

Awarded October’s Premier League player of the month, there’s no doubt the Egyptian international will be looking to add to his goal tally on Saturday.

Mohammed Salisu: Saints’ answer to stopping the Liverpool threat could come down to Mohammed Salisu who has become a mainstay in Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side.

The Ghanaian still leads the way for total passes, interceptions, aerial battles won and interceptions amongst the Southampton squad.
