Saints Foundation supporting BBC’s Kit Out The Nation campaign
Saints Foundation is helping to ‘Kit Out The Nation’, collecting unwanted sports equipment to be redistributed to young people who need it.
Kit Out The Nation is a new BBC Make A Difference campaign, which aims to give unwanted but good condition equipment an extended life with young people who may otherwise find sport and exercise unaffordable.
Recent data from Sport England showed 100,000 fewer children met the recommended level of activity in 2020 than in 2019, with access to sport and exercise limited due to the affordability of kit – a situation that has only been compounded by the pandemic.
BBC Radio Solent is driving the campaign in the South, with charity organisations from across the area coming together in support.
The campaign is looking to collect everyday items of sports kit (clean, usable clothing) and regular games equipment that a young person can use in an activity, such as balls, bats and rackets. They are not looking for large items of gym equipment. Please bag up any kit or equipment prior to donation.
Saints Foundation will welcome donations at a drop-off at St Mary’s on the following dates:
More details on the drop-offs will be provided closer to the time. The Foundation is also looking to reach out to partner schools of their Community Champions and Premier League Primary Stars programmes to collect kit and equipment that is unwanted by their pupils.
So, check out your cupboards, sort out bedrooms and if you’ve got unwanted sports equipment, help us get them to children and young adults who need them!
