Southampton FC Women's manager Marieanne Spacey-Cale spoke to girls on Saints Foundation's Premier League Changemakers programme about her experiences as a leader in football.

Saints Women's captain Shannon Sievwright is leading the Premier League Changemakers course in Southampton, which is being delivered to girls aged 11 to 16 as part of Saints Foundation's female inclusion work.

She invited her manager and coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale to speak to the participants, giving them an insight into Spacey-Cale's inspiring career as a former international footballer and now as leader of the Southampton FC Women's Team.

Spacey-Cale enjoyed a decorated career as an England international footballer and is now Head of Girls and Women’s Football at Southampton FC. She became a Saints Foundation ambassador earlier this year with a particular desire to support our female inclusion work.

“I think it was really important to be there and just share some experiences,” she said. “I found the group were really well informed for young people… yes, they inspired me.”

PL Changemakers is supported by female staff from across Saints Foundation's projects to provide inspiring role models for the participants. Activities on the programme include taking part in a variety of sporting sessions, planning social action projects and engaging with volunteering opportunities within the Foundation.

The UNITAR Accredited Leadership Course is funded by the Premier League and Sport Relief. Saints Foundation began delivering the course earlier this summer, with groups meeting weekly throughout the school summer break, followed by a blended programme of face-to-face and online sessions running until Spring 2022.
