Southampton FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of striker Katie Rood, who joins Saints from Lewes FC.

Rood spent seven years at Glenfield Rovers in her home country, New Zealand, before making a move to Juventus in 2017.

Rood’s first taste of English football came in 2012, when she spent a period with Lincoln Ladies in the FA WSL.

After making six appearances for Juventus and scoring four goals, Rood made the move to FA WSL side Bristol City before a loan move to Lewes FC turned permanent in 2019.

The New Zealand international made her first senior international debut in 2017.

Rood now joins a Saints side that are looking to thrive in their new challenge in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier.

“I’m really excited about it,” said the 28-year-old upon arriving at Saints. “ I think it’s an ambitious club. The resources and the facilities here are amazing.

“Even with the staff, they’re experienced and the quality, I think it shows the club are trying to make a statement. It really breeds a professional environment that us players thrive off.

“It’s an amazing environment. So far everyone has been really nice, really friendly. But also really good.

"I’m excited to get out on the pitch with them and see what we can do.”
