It took a Kevin de Bruyne masterclass to overcome an extremely spirited performance from Jannik Vestergaard's Denmark during matchday two in Group B, with the Man City forward emerging from the bench in the second-half to snuff out the winner.

Denmark had themselves in front in under two minutes, with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg supplying Yussuf Poulsen on the edge of the area, who calmly slotted the ball past Thibaut Courtois with a measured finish.

The Danes controlled much of the first period, with Vestergaard among a defensive trio including Chelsea's Andreas Christensen, who both did a superb job of keeping tabs on Belgium's main threat Romelu Lukaku, before the guile of de Bruyne stepped off the bench.

There was a brief pause in play in the tenth minute to pay tribute to Christian Eriksen, who is said to be continuing his recovery in hospital following his collapse during Denmark's opening fixture, with applause ringing out around the ground in support of the talismanic #10.

In truth, it was the introduction of de Bruyne at half-time that made the difference on the night, playing his part in the equalising goal, scored by Thorgan Hazard, before driving home the winner 20 minutes from time, as the tie ended 2-1 in favour of Belgium.

Victory means Roberto Martínez's side are top of Group B with six points from two games while Denmark are bottom of the standings, without anything to show for either of their brave and determined performances. Their final group stage game will be played against Russia on Monday 21st June (8pm BST).
