Saints Foundation is showing its support for Dementia Action Week by helping our participants and staff become better educated about Alzheimer’s disease.

Last week, our Senior Saints community were joined by a representative from the Alzheimer’s Society for their tea and chat session. They discussed how best to support people with dementia and also looked at Memory Box, a reminiscence project supporting those living with dementia and carers across Hampshire.

We’ve also used official guidance from the Alzheimer’s Society to create a series of social media graphics, giving advice to our followers about how to best support people with dementia.

Southampton FC has been working with the Alzheimer’s Society to make St Mary’s a dementia friendly stadium for our fans and visitors. We now have 148 qualified Dementia Friends across the club and the Foundation, and that number continues to rise.

We’re encouraging all our staff, our participants and the wider community to become Dementia Friends. Too many people affected by dementia feel that society fails to understand the condition they live with. Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding, so that people living with dementia can continue to live in the way they want. Becoming a Dementia Friend is very easy and can take as little as 5 minutes.
