Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl was very proud of his Southampton side as they claimed a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, despite going a goal down early on.

Christian Benteke launched the visitors ahead after just three minutes at St Mary's, but a brace from Danny Ings and a goal from Ché Adams earned Saints maximum points.

Ings made an instant impact after returning from a brief injury spell, while Fraser Forster also made a crucial penalty save to deny Palace just before half-time, following his reinstatement.

“The start was not so good but I think we didn’t get nervous or not believe," the manager commented. "We tried to immediately speed up the game."

"In possession I saw a team that was very good organised today, we found the right places in the right moment.

"In the first half we had a lot of chances to score and in the second-half we had Danny Ings and Ché; they scored three goals which was important for today.

“It was very much our game plan with what we did with the ball. Hard to defend for the opponent and then finally you need to score and Ingsy did a fantastic job today.

"I think we can score more often, I think we had more chances to do it. I think it was, with the ball, one of our better games this season.”

we need to be a little more careful in and around the box with our fould because we make too many.

"Frase made a fantastic save, he held us in the game and showed how good a goalkeeper he is and that was important today, definitely.

“I’m happy he [Ings] is fit, I hope he stays fit until the end of the season and then we have another three chances for taking three points.

“We always want to look on us, it’s a pity we aren’t higher in the table because we dropped so many points in the second-half of the season, otherwise we could’ve ended up higher. It’s important we are taking the last three games to climb a few positions."
