James Ward-Prowse has been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the first batch of World Cup qualifiers later this month.

The Saints skipper is one of seven midfielders in the 26-man selection for the games against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

The Three Lions open up their qualifying campaign by hosting San Marino at Wembley on Thursday 25th March, before travelling to Albania on Sunday 28th March, concluding the week back at Wembley against Poland on Wednesday 31st March.

Ward-Prowse will hope to add to his four senior caps and strengthen his credentials for a place in the final 23-man squad for EURO 2020 this summer, having been forced to withdraw from the November internationals with injury.

Elsewhere, Ché Adams has been named alongside Scotland regular Stuart Armstrong for the first time, having declared his allegiance through the grandparent rule.

England and Scotland will meet in the second round of group fixtures at EURO 2020 on Friday 18th June at Wembley.
