Saints’ Instagram: Thanks a Million!

In celebration of @SouthamptonFC reaching 1,000,000 followers on Instagram, we’ve taken a look back at some of our most memorable moments on the social platform…

Nobody does last-ditch defending quite like Jan Bednarek, as proven by this montage of penalty-box heroics.

The Polish international appears from nowhere – quite literally – to snuff out golden chances for Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Ché Adams’s 40-yard lob to get off the mark in a Saints shirt was one of

moments of last season, as the striker netted a spectacular long-range winner against Man City at St Mary’s.

This angle from the opposite end of the pitch perfectly captures the flight of the shot, which starts way outside the post and curls oh so satisfyingly into the middle of the goal.

Few moments get our players quite as excited as a goal in which everybody plays their part.

This Boxing Day spectacular was finished by Nathan Redmond, but also had eight of his teammates involved in the build-up, each appearing with a different expression in the video, which is capped off by an unexpected cameo from Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté.

We love that our proud Academy features among our most popular posts.

These days we know Dan Nlundulu as a first-team player, but back in 2019 he was scoring this dramatic last-gasp winner for Southampton Under-23s at Man City, where Saints trailed 3-2 until the 87th minute. Cue elite scenes on the touchline.

Am I seeing double? James Ward-Prowse was in top form at Villa Park on his 26th birthday, burying not one but two trademark free-kicks in the space of 12 first-half minutes.

This video captures both strikes, one after the other, before the skipper’s two celebrations come together at the end. Poetry in motion.

Saints started 2021 with a bang – a 1-0 home victory over Liverpool courtesy of this Danny Ings goal against his former club.

We love the disguise on Ward-Prowse’s free-kick, and the precision of Ings’s finish, as his cheeky lob dropped under Alisson’s crossbar just in the nick of time.

We love Moussa Djenepo. He’s just a happy guy, and after scoring a sublime solo goal to earn Saints three points at Bramall Lane, he wanted to show his appreciation to the travelling fans.

Spotting a Mali flag in the crowd, he headed straight for it, delivering his shirt to a young fan who struggled to keep his emotions in check. How we miss having you in the stands!

Now this is a pretty cool piece of artwork, right? To celebrate two years in the job, we posted this Ralph Hasenhüttl graphic, which went down a treat.

The animated sketch is accompanied by some Hasenhüttl buzzwords and smatterings of red, which really brings the image to life. Most importantly, you loved it.

We know you love a new signing, and this collection of Takumi Minamino photos sent our followers wild, as the Japanese international completed a deadline-day loan switch from Liverpool.

We showed Minamino around Staplewood, shirt in hand, and took great pleasure in introducing the latest member of the Saints family.

Talking of signings, this one hit us right in the feels. Theo Walcott, 14 years later, back at St Mary’s.

This specially-made graphic features Theo then, back in 2005/06, and Theo now, in 2020/21, with his spiritual home in the background.
