We are celebrating International Women’s Day by empowering young women and encouraging conversations between female participants across generations.
Activities in celebration of International Women’s Day (Monday 8 March) have been taking place across a range of our projects and will continue for the rest of the week.
Last week, a group of 16 to 18 year old girls from our NCS programme joined an online session with over 65 year old Senior Saints participants. The two groups engaged in a fun, thought-provoking conversation about their experiences as women across generations.
Four women from our Senior Saints project have also shared about their experiences for a short video which is being shown in schools this week. They discussed the challenges they faced in their lives and offered advice to young women growing up today. You can watch the video below.
Our Female Inclusion Officer Shannon Sievwright recently hosted an online panel with female employees from Southampton Football Club for students at St. Anne’s School. She’ll also be delivering women’s role model workshops at Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill this week, and will speak at Southampton County Council International Women’s Day event later today.
online panel attendeeit was a really good experience, they responded to questions with passion and it was really interesting to find out the sort of things they do.
We are also celebrating the news that Saints FC’s Women’s Team will be able to return to pitch in the coming weeks, with their fixtures in the Vitality FA Cup due to resume in April. The team are preparing for their return with an almighty fundraising challenge for Saints Foundation.
They will collectively be running, cycling, swimming, rowing or cycling 3,100 miles in March, with the aim of reaching a fundraising target of £3,100. You can read more about their challenge and donate below.saints fc women's fundraising challenge
Our work on female inclusion continues beyond International Women’s Day. Shannon has been leading free, female-only online exercise sessions for girls aged 11 to 16 years old. The sessions are inclusive, supportive space for teenage girls to exercise together.learn more about the sessions
