Southampton’s youngsters return to action for the first time in 66 days on Tuesday, visiting Brighton & Hove Albion in the Under 18s Premier League.

The last outing for Paul Hardyman’s side came back in mid-December, a trip to West Bromwich Albion in the U18 Premier League.

Saints’ Jayden Smith equalised following a Mo Faal’s strike just ahead of the interval, before a double inside the last twenty minutes from Jovan Malcolm settled the game for the Baggies.

Brighton will similarly make their first outing of the new year on Tuesday, having last took to the field at Tottenham on 30th January.

Despite taking the lead just shy of the hour mark through Cameron Peupion, the Seagulls succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to their hosts, Maksim Paskotši and Max Robson scoring inside the last twenty minutes.

LAST MEETING

Saints and Brighton last met each other in October of 2020 at Staplewood Campus, Saints’ second home game of the season.

The hosts started the game brightly, buoyant by the strong point at Chelsea a week beforehand.

But Brighton snatched a two-goal lead midway through the first half; Todd Miller and then Matt Everitt getting the goals which would ultimately decide the game.

Saints would however bounce back in style the week later, thrashing Leicester 8-2 at Staplewood.
