Vaccine volunteer Jake speaks with The Duke of Cambridge

The Duke of Cambridge has celebrated the vaccine rollout in the UK by speaking to frontline staff and volunteers, including Saints Foundation team member Jake Plummer.

The Duke spoke with a small group of frontline staff and volunteers on a video call, sharing his gratitude for their fast and efficient rollout of the coronavirus vaccine across the country. More than 4 million people have already received their first dose of the vaccine.

As part of Saints As One, our joint initiative with Southampton Football Club, Saints Foundation volunteers have been supporting the Southern PCN (Primary Care Network) and Solent NHS Trust with the city’s vaccine rollout.

So far, 36 members of the team have marshalled weekend clinics in the city, managing the flow of patients and providing a friendly, reassuring presence. Volunteers will support another clinic this weekend.

TO MEET THE DUKE TODAY AND BE ABLE TO DISCUSS WITH HIM HOW IMPORTANT THIS EFFORT IS REALLY WAS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY.

Jake is a casual member of Saints Foundation staff who has given his time to support the vaccination clinics. He said it was “a privilege to be a part of the vaccine rollout.”

“In my role, I’ve been able to provide that friendly face that people need whilst they’re getting vaccinated, especially as it can be a daunting experience for some. I’ve met so many different people of all ages and backgrounds, and to meet The Duke today and be able to discuss with him how important this effort is really was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

You can watch The Duke’s video call with Jake and the other frontline vaccination staff below.

Saints Foundation and Southampton Football Club are committed to supporting the local community during these difficult times through the Saints As One initiative.
