Southampton FC Women return to pre-season action on Sunday as they welcome Lewes to last season’s fortress, Snows Stadium, in a 12pm kick off.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s last match came on their pre-season tour to Scotland, as they took on former Saints man Fran Alonso’s Celtic at Barrowfield Training Ground. It was a hard-fought 1-1 draw in which the travelling team grew into the match, with new signings all getting game time; Paige Peake also converting the penalty won by Ella Morris.
Lewes will provide a different test for Saints, and will be a useful gauge going into the Barclays Women’s Championship next season. It was an eighth place finish for the fellow south coast side in the 2021/22 season and they’ll be looking to build on that for the coming season.
With three new signings bolstering Spacey-Cale’s squad since the last pre-season friendly, Saints fans have the opportunity to see what they can do in the earlier kick off before enjoying the historic UEFA Women’s EURO final later in the afternoon.

LAST MEETINGIt was ahead of the 2021/22 season that the two sides last met in another friendly match, with Saints securing a 1-0 win. Despite consistent pressure from the Championship side, Saints held firm and were able to create their own chances in attack.Rosie Parnell’s header from a corner proved to be the decisive moment, as a ball to the back post saw the defender head through the keepers hands and into the back of the net.
