Women given fitness boost by returning trio
Southampton FC Women will be able to call on greater squad depth for their trip to Durham in the Barclays Women's Super League 2 this weekend.
Head Coach Simon Parker revealed in his latest team news update that Abbie Ferguson, Kiera Sena, and Tegan McGowan, who all missed last week’s clash with Birmingham, are set to return in Sunday’s travelling squad.
The trio’s inclusion will restore vital squad depth, after it was revealed last week that Chloe Peplow and Ruby-Rae Tucker will both miss the remainder of the season due to ankle injuries.
"Kiera will be in the squad, Abbie will be in the squad, and Tegan will be back in the squad. The ones that are still out are Pep and Ruby, who are out for the rest of the season as well as Emma [Harries].” Parker explained.
"The addition of those three players, Kiera, Abbie and Tegan, is that they all offer something - we know what Tegan's been doing recently so to get her back is really beneficial.
"Abbie has been fantastic this year and it's been quite a while since we've had her with the concussion and shoulder injury, but again she's looked really sharp in training so that's a really good option to have. We know how Abbie can excite, she's someone who likes to dribble and get at players.
"Then Kiera, who unfortunately has had her illness throughout the season, adds real versatility for us as she can play so many different positions.
"Where we are potentially a little bit light in the midfield at the moment with Pep being out, Kiera is a player who can play in the back line, she can play wide, and centre-midfield so we're really excited to have her back in - obviously for her, she hasn't really been able to play this year so it's a real nice opportunity for her to come in and really impact us towards the end of the season."
