Ward-Prowse becomes Southampton 2025 ambassador
Saints first-team captain James Ward-Prowse has announced his support for Southampton’s campaign to become the 2025 UK City of Culture by becoming an ambassador for the bid.
Ward-Prowse’s connection with the city started at an early age when he joined the club’s Academy, giving him the platform to reach his potential in becoming Southampton’s captain and representing England.
Southampton 2025 aims to give youngsters across the city the same opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their dreams by showcasing the best that the city has to offer.
James’s commitment forms just part of Southampton Football Club’s support for the bid, as announced earlier this year.
Claire Whitaker OBE, Southampton 2025 UK City of Culture Bid Director said “With a record number of cities in the running, all eyes are currently on what makes Southampton unique – and it is our focus on ensuring that the city’s children and young people have the skills and opportunities to thrive which we believe will help us win.
"Not only are we delighted to announce James as an ambassador for our bid to become UK City of Culture 2025, we are also thrilled that he is a great role model for the children and young people of Southampton who are not only shaping our bid, but also the future of our wonderful city.
"There are so many Southampton-based organisations committed to improving the opportunities for and skills of young people currently working across the city, with the Saints Foundation being one of them. We want to ensure Southampton is a place which supports opportunities for our talented young people."
