Matchdays at St Mary’s Stadium aren’t all about what you can see on the pitch. For Steve Jarvis, and other blind or partially sighted Saints fans, what they hear on gamedays is crucial. That’s’ where Alan March Sport’s (AMS) audio description service can make all the difference.

As part of Level Playing Field’s ‘Unite for Access’ campaign 2024, we’re highlighting what we’re doing as a club to support fans with accessible requirements, through our initiative, Red, White and You.

Steve and his son Dan are Season Ticket Holders at St Mary’s, stationed in the Northam Stand.

Following a motorcycle accident, Steve lost his sight and now uses the Alan March Sport audio description service to enhance his matchday experience. It’s a live in-detail commentary direct to a personal headset, allowing Steve to better picture what’s happening on the pitch.

Watch the video below to hear from Steve and Dan about the audio description service.

The service is available to both home and away fans visiting St Mary’s Stadium for Men's and Women's Team matches and it’s free of charge.

It’s provided by specially trained commentators who keep up with play to the second, meaning you don’t miss a moment.

The receivers are simple to use from anywhere in the stadium and while we can offer you a set of headphones to borrow on the day, it’d be great if you can bring your own.

If you want to book a receiver for an upcoming matchday at St Mary’s you can do so, once you have your match ticket, by emailing Helen Goosey: [email protected]

We’ll arrange to have a receiver brought to your seat before kick off. At full-time, please return your receiver to a nearby steward. In order for us to continue providing this service, it’s vital we have all receivers returned to us at the end of each match.
