Saints will be looking for an instant response following defeat on the road on Friday evening.

Adam Asghar's side suffered their first loss after five unbeaten games against high-flying Chelsea, which means securing a play-off finish comes down to the final game of the season.

Saints dropped to 16th in the table - the final play-off position - but have their fate in their own hands against Manchester United.

Victory will confirm their space in the post-season knockouts, with a point all-but sealing their place on goal difference; defeat will leave themselves vulnerable to being overtaken by Aston Villa, who play later in the day.

Manchester United have already sealed their play-off finish, so are playing to see who they will face in the knockouts based on their league position.

Despite a poor run of form, having won just one in their last seven games, United are mathematically secured in the table.

Travis Binnion's side sit in 15th and could finish as high as 11th with a win at Staplewood, but could also drop to 16th with defeat against Saints who would overtake them.

The two sides last met in the 2020/21 campaign, as Saints suffered a cruel late defeat at AFC Totton's Snows Stadium.

Kazeem Olaigbe's second-half opener was cancelled out by a quickfire brace from Charlie McCann inside the final ten minutes to seal the points for the Red Devils.

There will be no Saints Play stream of Friday's game, but there will be live updates on the club's X/Twitter account.
