Saints will be aiming to pick up where they left off in their first home game of the season, as they responded to their opening day defeat with a 4-2 win over Aston Villa last week.

Dom Ballard again showed his quality in front of goal with another hat-trick, which takes his impressive early tally to six goals in two games at the start of the season.

A late solo effort from Tyler Dibling secured the victory for Saints in stoppage time as they currently sit in ninth position after two games.

Liverpool are one of seven teams yet to suffer defeat in their opening two games, picking up a win and a draw so far.

The Reds began the season with a Merseyside derby and comfortably beat Everton 4-0 on the opening day.

However, they followed that up with a 1-1 draw away to Derby County, who finished bottom of Division Two in the 2022/23 campaign.

Liverpool finished second in the top division last season, three points ahead of Chelsea but 13 points behind title winners Manchester City.

PREVIOUS MEETING

The last meeting between the two sides came in 2021 in the last season Saints were in the top division of PL2.

Luke Pearce's first half equaliser wasn't enough to take anything in a narrow defeat, with Joe Hardy scoring twice for the visitors.

COACHES PREVIEW

Speaking after Saints' first win of the season against Aston Villa, Lee Skyrme admitted that improvements are still to be made for his side.

"Points are always important but never more important than the lads' development. When we put our style in place, we're really good with the ball but when we come away from it and don't apply our behaviours that's when we struggle."

"The game will always swing with momentum but we need the personality, when it's against us, to turn the game back into how we want to play it and that's what we'll be looking for against Liverpool."
