Southern Brave and Kenzie Benali bowl over Foundation Changemakers
The worlds of professional football and cricket collided when Saints Foundation linked up with The Hundred’s Southern Brave teams.
Two of Southampton’s biggest sports have teamed up to reach out into the community and engage young people in summer activities.
Last week, Southern Brave cricketer Georgia Adams visited Southampton FC’s training ground Staplewood for a session with Saints Foundation’s Premier League ‘Changemakers’ – girls aged between 11 and 16 who are working with us to build their confidence, aspirations and leadership potential.
As an ambassador of Saints Foundation and lead presenter of The Hundred, Kenzie Benali was the perfect choice to host a Q&A with Adams, and even got stuck in when the Changemakers commandeered one of Saints’ pitches for a few games of cricket.
Earlier in July, Southern Brave players Joe Weatherley and Dani Gregory joined Southampton FC Women’s striker Lucia Kendall to visit a Community Champions cricket club at one of our partner schools, Oasis Academy Sholing. The young people got a masterclass from the two Hundred pros, with Kendall also able to offer her expertise as an ex-Hampshire Cricket player herself.
Cutting edge 100-ball cricket competition The Hundred returns for its third summer season tomorrow (1 August). This year's season opener sees Southern Brave’s teams play away in Nottingham against current Men’s title holders Trent Rockets, with their first outing at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl coming on Friday (4 August) when they face Welsh Fire.
