South Western Railway fund Senior Saints to 'Try the Train'
After years of successful collaboration, South Western Railway and their Customer and Communities Improvement Fund are officially funding Saints Foundation to ‘Try the Train’ as announced at an ‘Independence Day’ event hosted at St Mary’s Stadium.
While in early July across the pond they celebrate their own Independence Day, in this context it is a day to showcase how different organisations can help older adults retain their own independence.
Senior Saints is a long running project of Saints Foundation helping its participants maintain their independence through a mixture of physical exercise and social activities.
South Western Railway are a long-time supporter of the project, previously helping our team take the Senior Saints on trips to the New Forest and Bournemouth, and will now fund Saints Foundation £17,000 over the next year.
Peter Williams, Customer and Commercial Director at South Western Railway, said: “We are very proud to support Saints Foundation, an organisation that is making a big contribution to the many local communities in the Southampton area.
"Our ‘Try the Train’ sessions have successfully shown a variety of groups, all with different needs, just how easy train travel can be, and our partnership with Saints Foundation will help older adults to maintain and grow their independence.”
Saints Foundation will provide further details on the trips in the coming months, and Senior Saints will takeover the social media profiles on the days of every South Western Railway funded ‘Try the Train’ trip.
