Saints Foundation’s support for older adults in Southampton has received a funding boost from the National Lottery Community Fund.

strives to help older people improve their wellbeing and maintain their independence through exercise activities. With COVID-19 lockdowns leaving many older people inactive and isolated in their homes, these sessions have given participants a way to exercise and socialise, and reintegrate with people in their local community.

The funding comes as Senior Saints continues to evolve to meet the needs of our city. New sessions in Weston and Harefield have expanded the project’s reach into new communities, and the charity has added a third weekly walk to the schedule, giving participants who feel nervous about exercising indoors a way to get involved. Participants also have the option of engaging in Senior Saints through online exercise sessions from home if they prefer.

Greg Baker, Head of Saints Foundation, said: “We’re extremely grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for their support. Senior Saints offers a lifeline for older people in Southampton as we all attempt to navigate the ongoing effects of the pandemic.

“This funding allows us to ensure that participants can engage with their community in a way they feel comfortable, when they feel comfortable.”
