Sellés: We saw a team with character
Southampton manager Rubén Sellés praised his side's 'team spirit' following a hard fought point at Manchester United in the Premier League.
It was an even opening half-an-hour in Manchester when the hosts were reduced to ten men, Casemiro sent off for a high challenge on Charly Alcaraz following a VAR review.
Saints pressed for what would have been a deserved winner in the remaining minutes, denied on multiple occasions by the woodwork.
Ultimately it was a hard-earned point on the road for Sellés's side, something the boss feels they can continue to build on.
"I feel really comfortable with the performance," said Sellés. "We saw a team with character and a team who came here to Old Trafford trying to implement the idea of how we do things and be disappointed with just a point.
"We always have the idea to be aggressive in our pressure, to go high and try to put the game in the opposition half.
"Of course you will find a couple of times where they try and break the pressure and then you have to defend the situations. I think we’re getting there.
"Then in possession the calmness that our players showed in every situation, trying to build out, trying to find each other, trying to exploit the spaces, it’s what we spoke about before the game. I think it’s a team that’s working together, fighting together, playing together. And the team spirit is there."
