Southampton's Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Jayden Meghoma, and Tyler Dibling have reached the knockout stages with England at the Under-17 World Cup.

The Young Lions progressed as Group C winners despite suffering a narrow defeat against defending champions Brazil in their final group stage game.

Amo-Ameyaw and Meghoma both started at the Jakarta International Stadium in a hotly anticipated contest between two of the strongest sides at the tournament.

Full-back Meghoma almost set up an opener for England with a cross that Manchester City's Matty Warhurst headed towards goal, but was denied by an excellent save.

Amo-Ameyaw came close to scoring with three separate attempts from distance, but it was Brazil who led at half time thanks to KauĆ£ Elias's 43rd-minute volley.

The four-time winners doubled their lead early in the second half when Da Mata's header squirmed under Ajax's Tommy Setford in goal.

Amo-Ameyaw's afternoon ended as he was substituted just after the hour, despite a bright display, before England pulled a goal back when Manchester City's Joel Ndala converted from the penalty spot.

Dibling was introduced deep into 15 minutes of stoppage time with Meghoma lasting the entire game as the Young Lions did enough to secure their passage into the Round of 16 in Indonesia.
