Saints Under-16s compete in Algarve Elite Cup
Southampton’s Under-16s have finished fifth in the Algarve Elite Cup, an international youth tournament held in Portugal.
The young squad, consisting of a mixture of Under-15s and Under-16s players, took part in a busy schedule of seven games in three days, where they finished fifth out of 16 teams from around the world.
On the tournament's opening day, they competed in a group against Sporting Lisbon, Royal Antwerp, and FC Utrecht, finishing third thanks to a 2-0 win over the Belgian side Royal Antwerp.
Day two saw them enter a new group against two football academies, International Sports Revolution from the Netherlands and Supra Academy from Canada.
A 1-1 draw and 2-1 win respectively saw Saints top those standings to advance into the final day's seeding.
Saints put in impressive performances to beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1 and SC Braga 1-0 to finish in fifth place overall.
