Saints trio add to international caps
Three Saints were in action on the final night of internationals around the globe.
Whilst this summer’s 48-team World Cup line-up has now been finalised following six play-off finals on Tuesday evening, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland had already been eliminated at the semi-final stage.
That meant Shea Charles and Finn Azaz added to their international caps in friendlies, as Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland took on Wales and North Macedonia respectively.
Charles was substituted at half time in Cardiff with Northern Ireland leading 1-0 through a goal from Tottenham’s on-loan Oxford midfielder Jamie Donley, only for Sorba Thomas to equalise soon after the interval to ensure a share of the spoils on Charles’ 33rd senior cap.

Azaz, making his 14th appearance for his country, was also a starter in another draw, as Ireland were held to a goalless stalemate by North Macedonia.
Playing 60 minutes in Dublin, that took his tally to 180 minutes including Thursday’s play-off semi-final defeat to Czech Republic, who subsequently eliminated Denmark to qualify. Ryan Manning, a starter in Prague, did not feature in Tuesday’s friendly.
Elsewhere, Cyle Larin was also an unused substitute as World Cup co-hosts Canada played out a goalless draw of their own against Tunisia in Toronto. The Saints striker did play 63 minutes in their previous friendly, a 2-2 draw against Iceland on Saturday.
Joshua Quarshie helped Germany Under-21s leapfrog group leaders Greece with a 2-0 win in Athens, completing back-to-back 90 minutes having also been on the winning side against Northern Ireland (3-0) in EURO qualifying on Friday.
