Saints stars fire Scotland to big win

A double for Stuart Armstrong and a quick Ché Adams counter, alongside an assist each, saw Southampton's Scottish duo fire their country to a much-needed three points.

In a fortnight where Steve Clarke's side lost out on a place at the World Cup and suffered a painful defeat at Ireland, Tuesday night's Nations League trip to Armenia was a chance to regain some belief.

Although it didn't start according to plan, the hosts took the lead after just six minutes, a double from Armstrong in the 14th minute and first half stoppage time soon turned the game on it's head. The first assisted by Adams.

John McGinn made it 3-1 five minutes into the second 45, before a Saints counter attack, started by Armstrong and finished off in style by Adams, secured a well-deserved win in league B, group 1.

Elsewhere it was a frustrating night for Will Smallbone and Ireland's Under-21s side, who fell to a 4-1 defeat in Italy.

The Saints youngster played the duration as Conor Coventry's second half penalty gave them hope at 3-1, before Giacomo Quagilata sealed the victory with four minutes to play.
