Southampton’s game against Burnley is Saints Foundation’s charity matchday – in the build-up to Sunday’s clash, we’re casting a spotlight on inspiring stories from participants who have been supported by the Foundation over the past 12 months.
Michael is 35 years old and has been engaging with the Foundation for nearly 20 years. He was born with mild cerebral palsy and before he joined the SaintsAbility programme, he often felt excluded and misunderstood.
“I would be the last person to be picked in any team,” Michael remembers. “I didn’t always feel included.” But since he engaged with the Foundation’s projects, Michael has had many amazing experiences, including participating in a football tournament in Vienna and meeting many of the first team players.
You can watch Michael’s story below:
Saints Foundation are shining a light on their work in the community in the build-up to their charity matchday on Easter Sunday. Michael received one of the first shirts printed in a limited run of replicas to those being worn by the Saints for their Premier League clash with Burnley.
This amazing opportunity has been donated to the Foundation by the club’s main sponsor Sportsbet.io. As well as donating their shirt sponsorship, Sportsbet.io have also agreed to donate up to £10,000 to the charity by matching donations made in the build-up to the game.
Saints Foundation are asking fans to show their support during the charity matchday by making a £10 donation to the charity in place of the money they would usually spend on a match ticket.
