Saints confirm permanent Larin signing
Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce that Cyle Larin has completed a permanent transfer to remain at St Mary’s.
The 31-year-old striker was a January recruit on loan from RCD Mallorca and became an instant hero, scoring the only goal of the game with his first touch in a Saints shirt just seconds after coming off the bench on his debut against Watford.
Larin never looked back, racking up eight goals in 16 Sky Bet Championship appearances, averaging a goal every 107 minutes in league action.
The Canadian international, who has 89 caps, also scored on his Emirates FA Cup debut and helped Saints reach the semi-finals of the competition in the season that marked the 50th anniversary of the club’s legendary Wembley triumph of 1976.
Ending his loan spell with nine goals in 22 games, only 12 of which were starts, he will now embark on a historic summer for his country as Canada co-host the World Cup alongside USA and Mexico.
Signing a two-year deal with a further year option, potentially extending his Saints stay until 2029, Cyle Larin said: "I'm just very happy to be back. From the first day I came into Southampton I was very welcomed by the staff, the players, and then just how it started, to score on my first touch, I think it helped very much.
"I just connected well with the team and the staff and we just had a great season, and I really felt I wanted to continue."
Group Technical Director Johannes Spors said: “It was clear from the first minute that Cyle and Southampton were a very good fit, and that he complemented Tonda’s attacking options extremely well.
“Cyle, like Daniel Peretz, was not obligated to make this move as part of the previous loan agreement. He chose to stay with us ahead of joining other clubs, underlining his commitment to helping us achieve our goals.”
