Southampton manager Russell Martin expressed his excitement at the addition of Joe Rothwell to his side this month, but offered a reminder that the midfielder will needed a period of transition.

Rothwell arrived from Bournemouth earlier this week, adding to the midfield options ahead of another busy period.

Whilst the manager was aware of the plus points he'll bring to the side, he wanted to offer a realistic timeline for his new recruit:

"Joe [Rothwell] will be in the squad, he’s looking good. It will take a bit of time to get used to the way we play, it’s different to what he was used to.

"We now have different options for different games. Joe gives us something different, terrific set piece delivery. I’m excited to work with him. I think we can really help him and he can help us.

"We’re going to need depth and different options for different games. This month is okay but next month is chaos again! We’ve helped ourselves a lot with the addition of Joe.

"I love the group of players we’re working with so much. What they’re giving us and the way they interact with each other and with staff. I’m so grateful to them. We need to keep the hungry, to keep them humble, to keep them together."
