Russell Martin’s squad has received a fitness boost following the international break as Saints head into a busy Easter weekend.

Returning to action after a three-week break when Middlesbrough head to St Mary’s on Friday, defender Jan Bednarek and midfielder David Brooks are fine to feature despite both being substituted in Tuesday’s EURO 2024 play-off final between Wales and Poland.

“Jan took a kick in the first game before the Wales one and managed to get through the game as long as he could. He wasn’t feeling great either in terms of a bit of a virus which is what Brooksy had as well.

“Both have been assessed yesterday, both looked reasonably good, but we have a big weekend so we will have to make sure we are completely right, but both are available tomorrow and both will be involved.”

Elsewhere, Martin confirmed Kyle Walker-Peters and Ryan Fraser have utilised the break to return to fitness, with Juan Larios and Ross Stewart also making positive strides.

“Juan is back training with the group on the whole as well. We have to manage what he does but he’s back in and he’s looked great.

“Wee Man [Ryan Fraser] and Kyle have looked like they’ve never been away, so they are ready now for the run-in which is fantastic.

“Big Ross Stewart is back on the grass now doing light work and will slowly be reintegrated to the group, but as I’ve said before, not to expect too much from that but great to have him back on the grass and in and around the squad which is really nice.”
