Despite being back in training at Staplewood Campus, Southampton manager Russell Martin said Wednesday night's game against Preston North End will come too soon for Kyle Walker-Peters.

The full back had been an ever-present this season before coming off injured during the defeat at Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup.

Having missed the dramatic 4-3 win at Birmingham City on Saturday, Martin confirmed the full back is continuing his recovery this week but is unlikely to feature on Wednesday night.

"He was back on the grass today," said the manager, "tomorrow may be too early. It probably will be. But we’re hopeful to have him back on Saturday."

Elsewhere there was update offered on the fitness of Ryan Fraser, who was substituted during the defeat against Millwall at the end of February.

"Wee Man will be the same. The Leicester game being delayed suits him as he'll miss one game less. We’re hopeful he’ll be back for Middlesbrough. If he’s not it will be the game after."
