PLEDIS: We’ve been recognised for our dedication to EDI

The Premier League has recognised our ongoing commitment and dedication to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) by presenting us with its highest level of award, Advance level as part of the Premier League Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard (PLEDIS).

The announcement comes as we launch Red, White and You, our initiative to bring all of our EDI work together under one banner, with an aim to be braver and continue to progress in this space to improve the experiences of underrepresented groups in our city.

This is the second time the Premier League has recognised us with this award, having first been presented with the Advance level of PLEDIS in 2020.

The award, which is a result of the work we’ve done over the last three years, was given following a rigorous and in-depth assessment by an expert panel in September, scrutinising evidence that was submitted across all aspects of the club including our colleagues, supporters, players and participants.

Speaking about the award and the launch of Red, White and You, our Director of HR, Michelle Butler said:

“As someone who’s been involved in the club's Diversity and Inclusion work since the start of this journey, I’m extremely proud of the positive change that’s been achieved. From providing education to players within our Academy, tackling violence against women and girls, embedding the women’s team within the club and the creation of our Inclusion Advisory Board. We know this work will never be finished and we’ll continue this journey.

As we launch Red, White and You and look towards the future, we’re going to be even braver in this space and really narrow our focus on specific areas of the club and underrepresented groups.”

Although recognition through this Advance level award is a fantastic achievement for us a club, we know our work in this space needs to evolve further.

To do this we’re launching our Red, White and You initiative. The aim with this is to bring all our work together under one clearly identifiable banner, allowing us to speak loud and proud about our Diversity and Inclusion work.

As we continue to use our platform to build awareness of EDI topics, challenge discrimination and inappropriate behaviour and remove barriers to inclusion, we’ll continue to provide an inclusive environment for everyone to thrive within our great club.
