Peretz excited to embrace chaotic run-in
Daniel Peretz insists Southampton’s players “are happy to play as many games as possible” if that means a successful end to the season.
Fifty years on from the club’s finest hour at Wembley in 1976, Saints progressed to the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory at Premier League side Fulham on Sunday.
With that comes the prospect of a chaotic run-in with league games likely to be rescheduled, while Saints are also pushing for a top-six finish in the Championship, which will hopefully mean three play-off games in May.
But Peretz sees the prospective fixture pile-up as a positive, allowing the team to continue growing positive momentum in what has the potential to be a memorable end to the current campaign.
“Each one of us has the feeling that we have more power as a team, and look what we have done and what we have achieved,” he said, speaking after the dramatic late victory at Craven Cottage.
“In these 11 [remaining league] games for sure we will have more difficult moments, but when you have these kind of good moments you can always remember and say ‘this is something we can do together because we already did it’, so it’s important.
“We are happy to play as many games as possible. It’s a good sign!”
Saints were backed by nearly 5,000 travelling fans in West London, and Peretz believes his teammates were fuelled by the energy coming from the Putney End.
“To go to an away game with this kind of atmosphere and support, I’m really thankful to them, because we really felt them today,” he added.
“They helped us to reach our maximum effort today and we still need them. We need them for every game until the end of the season and we can achieve really good things together. Keep going, and thanks to them again.”
Saints will return to St Mary's after four games on the road with a home clash against Norwich on Wednesday 18th March (7.45pm GMT). Tickets start from £25 for Adults and £15 for Juniors. All previously purchased tickets for the original date remain valid.
