Matsuki: It was a great moment
It was a milestone night for Kuryu Matsuki, with the midfielder scoring his first Championship goals to help Saints to a thumping 5-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at St Mary’s.
Finn Azaz opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, with Matsuki opening his league account on the stroke of half time.
The Japanese had a second shortly after the restart before Leo Scienza got in on the act to put the result beyond doubt.
A stunning strike from James Bree was a fitting end to the scoring as Tonda Eckert’s side surged up to seventh in the table.
Reflecting on a night to remember, Matsuki said: “Obviously, it was a great moment for me because I scored my first goal in the Championship. I'm very happy to do that.
“We did so well. The first half was very good. The second half I scored one more goal. I'm very happy.
“I like this football. The gaffer gave me the confidence, so I just want more goals and assists. We have so many great players, so obviously I enjoy it. But we need to get more points and score more goals.”
