SETTING THE SCENE
Saints head across the border for the first of two matches book-ending a training camp in Wales this week, as Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side take on Cardiff tomorrow night before a friendly against Swansea City on Saturday.
Heading into the trip off the back of a 1-1 draw with Fulham in a behind-closed-doors friendly last weekend, Saints will look to step up their preparations against further Championship opposition.
For Cardiff, the midweek encounter will be their fourth pre-season outing, recording victories over Bath City and Forest Green Rovers as well as a draw with Exeter City.
With the Championship season just under two weeks away, Mick McCarthy’s side will be looking to build on last season’s eighth-place finish, finishing nine points outside of the play-offs.
In a bid to go one better in 2021/22, the Bluebirds have added striker James Collins - who scored 13 goals for Luton last season - as well as midfielder Ryan Wintle and defender Mark McGuinness from Crewe Alexandra and Arsenal (loan) respectively.
