Saints vs Man City

Carabao Cup

St Mary’s Stadium

Wednesday 11th January, 8pm GMT

Referee: Peter Bankes.

Assistants: Edward Smart, Nick Greenhalgh.

Fourth official: John Brooks.

Saints’ quarter-final Carabao Cup clash will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

A spot in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup is up for grabs as Southampton host Manchester City for midweek football at St Mary’s.

Saints have faced three League One opponents on their route to the quarter-final, claiming victory over Cambridge United and Sheffield Wednesday in the second and third rounds respectively.

A brace from Ché Adams in the fourth round of the competition was enough to overcome Lincoln City, despite Saints falling behind after just two minutes at St Mary’s.

A much more difficult path for Pep Guardiola’s men, who claimed victory over Chelsea and Liverpool to reach the last eight.

With both teams boosted by their victories in the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend, it’s all to play for at St Mary’s.

Nathan Jones has confirmed Armel Bella-Kotchap and Stuart Armstrong require more time before returning to the starting line-up for Saints, with Tino Livramento, Juan Larios, Alex McCarthy and Theo Walcott still sidelined.

Saints could turn to Mislav Oršić for the first time, since he arrived on the south coast last week.

Rúben Dias is the only player ruled out for the visitors.

“It's probably the toughest test you can possibly have, they are one of the best in the world, but it's the quarter-finals of a cup so you know it's a shoot-out. It's winner takes all so we need a strong home performance.”

"I've said before some competitions are more important than Carabao Cup but we have to try to reach the semi-final, they are so strong but we have to do what we can. This is what we’ve done many times."

The Scotland international has boasted excellent form in the Carabao Cup of late, netting five goals in his last three League Cup appearances, scoring a brace in both of his games this season.

Earning a place in City's starting XI against Chelsea in the FA Cup at the weekend, Pep Guardiola could once again turn to the 22-year-old to light up the City attack at St Mary's.
