WHAT’S AT STAKE?

A dramatic 4-3 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday leaves Rubén Sellés’s side bottom of the Premier League table and eight points adrift of safety with just three games to play.

With the odds stacked against them, Saints need three points at St Mary’s on Saturday if they have any chance of staying in the Premier League next season.

A different tale for the visitors, who have had an impressive return to the top division as they sit 10th in the current standings and six points ahead of Chelsea in 11th place.

Also involved in a dramatic scoreline last time out, Fulham emerged 5-3 victors over Leicester at Craven Cottage.

TEAM NEWS

Ché Adams is a doubt for Saturday’s tie while Armel Bella-Kotchap has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after picking up a hamstring injury against Nottingham Forest.

Romain Perraud, Mohammed Salisu and Juan Larios all remain long-term absentees. Tino Livramento is back in training but not available for selection.

Alexsandar Mitrović is available for selection after serving his eight-game ban, while Dan James, Tim Ream and Andreas Pereira remain out for the visitors.

Rubén Sellés: “It is our job and our privilege to be playing for Southampton so we will keep fighting to the end.

It is getting harder to motivate of course but we are in a good place and go tomorrow to compete and try to win."

Marco Silva: “[Southampton] are going to give everything they can, that is clear for me. They are at the bottom, they have been having a tough season.

Even if they have not achieved good results in the last few games, they are always fighting, they were leading the score in some games as well.”
