Facing City in their traditional sky blue attire, Saints will be in their red with white trim home kit for the tip to Manchester.

Saints picked up their first win in 10 Premier League matches at Sheffield United on Saturday, restoring some much needed confidence.

The three points take on additional importance when faced with the league leaders next up, who will be looking to bounce back from defeat in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Man City saw their run of 21 consecutive victories in all competitions brought to an end by their arch-rivals, and will now look to claw back the 14-point gap over second placed United.

For the visitors, a win could lift them as high as 11th, ahead of a run of three consecutive games against sides below them in the table.

Ralph Hasenhüttl has confirmed that leading scorer Danny Ings is likely to be absent for the remainder of this month's fixtures, following his early departure during Saturday's 2-0 success over Sheffield United.

Elsewhere, Oriol Romeu, Theo Walcott, Michael Obafemi and Will Smallbone remain sidelined, with the manager hinting he could make changes to maintain freshness.

For City, Pep Guardiola could have a full group of players to pick from following Nathan Aké’s return from an injury that has ruled him out since December.

"They are very dominant, they have good counter-pressing. If you want to play football against them you do it under high pressure and finally also in the back four they have so much individual quality that it is tough to score against them, so this is a good combination of being successful and, for me, it is not a coincidence the team did not need fans in the stadium or something else, they are simply good.”

"Having the margin we have at the top; it is in our hands but what we need now is new fresh legs next Wednesday and try to win another game.

"The way we will play Southampton will be completely different to how we played United and we are going to approach and decide how we are going to play and then try to do it."

City’s joint-top goal scorer so far this season, the England international was the difference when the two sides met at St Mary’s in December.

Involved in 11 goals in 16 Premier League games against Southampton, Sterling only has a better return against West Ham.

Restored to the starting line-up for the last two outings, Forster kept a fifth clean sheet of the season at Bramall Lane.

Largely untested against Sheffield United, the 32-year-old will likely need to be at his shot-stopping best on Wednesday night.

- Southampton have won their two Premier League games against sides top of the table this season, beating Everton 2-0 in October and Liverpool 1-0 in January. The last team to beat three different league leaders within a single top-flight campaign was the Saints themselves, beating Ipswich, Manchester United and Swansea in 1981/82.

- No player has been involved in more Premier League goals for Southampton this season than James Ward-Prowse (11 - six goals, five assists). He’s netted seven goals in all competitions so far this term, his joint-best return in a single season with Southampton.
