Southampton’s on-loan youngsters Lewis Payne and Josh Jeffries faced differing opposition last week in league and cup action with their respective clubs. Find out more in our latest Loan Watch...

In one of the standout ties in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round, Lewis Payne’s Newport County hosted Premier League giants Manchester United at Rodney Parade.

Payne watched on from the bench as The Exiles fought back from two goals down to level the game at 2-2 with the scores even for 20 minutes.

Just after United had regained the lead Payne was introduced in the 70th-minute to try and force another unlikely equaliser, but the plucky League Two side ultimately lost 4-2 after a stoppage-time finish from Rasmus HΓΈjlund.

Back in league action outside of the EFL, goalkeeper Josh Jeffries has had a successful end to January with National League South side Worthing FC.

He kept his first clean sheet for The Rebels in a 1-0 victory over Tonbridge Angles, which earned the 18-year-old a place in the Team of the Week.

He then made his fourth and fifth consecutive appearances for Worthing in a 1-1 draw against Slough Town and a 4-2 win over Torquay United.

Worthing are now unbeaten in four matches since Jeffries’s arrival, and have moved up into second place in the table.
