Cyle Larin praised Southampton’s growing confidence after a ruthless 5-1 victory over Wrexham.

Saints delivered an impressive attacking display on the road, responding well to what turned out to be a minor setback in the first half to take full control of the contest and secure another important win.

“I think it was a great game and, at a certain point when they scored, it got a little difficult,” Larin said.

“But I think the guys stuck together and we saw the game out to half-time. Then it was about coming out with power, strength and focus again, and I think we did that.”

A fast start proved key to the result, with Saints racing into an early lead to set the tone against a side pushing for the play-offs.

“We knew if we came out with a quick start, we would be able to play,” he said.

“It’s difficult to play here and they’re strong at home, so it was important we started well and took confidence from those first two goals.”

Larin was also on the scoresheet himself, producing a clinical finish after breaking through on goal.

“In the first half I had a couple that came across the box that I was frustrated about, I should have been there,” he said.

“But once I knew the ball was coming to me, I just took off. It seems like a long time, but it’s not. I had one thing on my mind, to put the ball in the back of the net, and I did that.”

The striker celebrated in front of the travelling supporters, highlighting their continued backing during a busy run of fixtures.

“It was amazing,” he said. “Just to have them right there and celebrate with them was special.”

Saints are back in action at St Mary's on Saturday when play-off rivals Derby County are the visitors (3pm BST). Tickets start from £25 for Adults and £15 for Juniors.
