Larin pleased with Saints' fight after late leveller
Cyle Larin highlighted Southampton’s determination following his late leveller which earned Saints a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
Saints were made to work hard in their trip to the West Midlands, but Larin's stoppage time header ensured the visitors left with a point after a battling performance on their return to Sky Bet Championship action.
Reflecting on the performance, the striker praised the team's resilience in a difficult trip on the road.
“It was obviously a different game than against Fulham and there’s not so much football you will play, it’s second balls, it’s fighting,” he said.
“I think we kept fighting until the end and got the point. I think that’s important and it shows where we are as a team to keep going when things are not going our way and when the ball’s not bouncing our way, we need to keep going.”
Larin’s equaliser came from a teasing delivery by substitute Samuel Edozie, which the striker met, and guided a header goalwards to apply the finishing touch.
“I thought it was going in first time, but it took a couple of bounces. I’m just happy that it went in and the bounce went my way.
“I’m just happy we took a point out of this game and there are lessons learned today because it’s not always going to be pretty.”
Larin has shared minutes in attack with Ross Stewart in recent weeks, but emphasised the importance of being ready whenever called upon.
“I’m just ready to play whenever I’m called upon. I’m happy to score goals, happy to fight for the team.
“I came here to play and help the team because I believe in the project I was coming into and believe in this team, the players they have, and the fans.”
