Ralph Hasenhüttl praised the Southampton fans for their support at St Mary's throughout the season, following the team's final home game of the Premier League season.

The Saints players and coaching staff showed their appreciation to the supporters following the full-time whistle against Liverpool, and Hasenhüttl also highlighted their backing when he spoke after the match.

"They really supported us this season fantastically," he said. "We had some really good moments here at home, we had a long run unbeaten in our own ground, which we hadn't had for a long time, and in the end we couldn't really hold the level high and this is a little bit frustrating for us, but they know how important they are for us."

Hasenhüttl also had praise for the performance of Nathan Redmond, who fulfilled a role at left wing-back for much of the night following the absence of Romain Perraud through injury, and who also scored a sensational goal in the 13th minute.

"Because we have no full-backs at the moment on that side, I took him there and I must say he was a really active player today in this position," he said.

"He did a good job, and also defensively, and he was one of the positive things today."
