Having rotated the squad in the previous two rounds, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has hinted at making changes for Southampton’s last 16 Carabao Cup trip to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Making wholesale alterations for the victories at Newport County and Sheffield United, Saints will head to the Premier League leaders unable to call upon Moi Elyounoussi (hand), Jack Stephens (knee), James Ward-Prowse (suspended) and Armando Broja (ineligible).

Handing a debut to Lyanco at Bramall Lane last month, Hasenhüttl commented on his latest approach to team selection: “Lyanco played against Sheffield one time and is also improving, I must say.

“Cup games are a good option for giving players a chance. The good thing is we have five subs on Tuesday, so if anyone is not starting then there are options from the bench.

“This is what I’m always preferring for the Premier League, I would like to have five subs in the Premier League.

“It would make it much more easy for us to give everybody enough game time and hopefully that will come one day.”
