Southampton Football Club is pleased to confirm the signing of goalkeeper George Long on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has completed a permanent transfer from Norwich City following a season-long loan spell at St Mary’s.

Long was a valued member of Saints’ goalkeeping unit throughout the 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship campaign. Regularly named in matchday squads, he made one first-team appearance in the Emirates FA Cup, helping Saints see off Leicester en route to the semi-finals.

A vastly experienced shot-stopper, Long has more than 300 games under his belt in English football across spells with Sheffield United, Hull City, Millwall and Norwich, amongst others.

On committing his future to the club through to 2028, George Long said: “Absolutely delighted, I was here last season on loan and to make it a permanent deal I am absolutely over the moon and it’s an exciting couple of years ahead. Hopefully next season we can finish what we didn’t get to do last season and get promoted.”

Group Technical Director Johannes Spors said: “George’s contribution should not be underestimated as a key part of our goalkeeping group whose professionalism is invaluable in driving standards at Staplewood day in, day out. I am delighted that he has chosen to extend his stay with us.”
